The Year in Pictures: from the blog

You’ve heard the joke, “Everyone’s got a blog these days…” well James Danziger has one and it is the catalyst to this packed house filled with modern photographic artworks.

There’s nothing especially new to this exhibit. Most of this work and these artists have been written about on the Internet, via photo blogs (such as Mr. Danziger’s) or featured on their own web site or some kind of online social media outlet, but the cool factor comes from one person curating a show based on their bite sized observations, written on a public diary, located somewhere in Cyberspace. It’s as if his blog materialized into an exhibition… actually, it did! The Power of Blogging might have been another appropriate title.

Aside from that, the photography is still top notch. Standouts included the hand-tooled photographic work of Jowhara Alsaud, the quieted silhouettes by Katherine Wolkoff and the intriguing portraits by Chan-Hyo Bae. This show has been hung in a salon style, with one wall dedicated to the “remembrance” of some of the greats, like Irving Penn and Julius Shulman. In a way it was like walking into someone’s quaint and well-lit Manhattan apartment, filled with an impressive collection of artwork and then jumping on Skype for a global conference call.
